Photographing from Upstate South Carolina, and beyond.

In the Spring of 1977 I received in the mail my first check from the Associated Press in the amount of thirty dollars for two photographs I was able to get published on “the wire” of student protests at the high school I was attending in Athens, Georgia. I can’t recall what they were protesting (our journalism teacher referred to it as an annual event).

From there my life as a “paid” photographer began. Now, here in the Fall of 2023, I’m heading back down the path I started on, learning to photograph what I find as value to document. I still have client relationships in Real Estate photography and other fields but I’m no longer actively promoting my photography business. If contacted about a photography need I will certainly approach the prospect with enthusiasm, but I’m closing this chapter of self promotion.

Marketing my work does not suit me well. As a twenty-year photojournalist followed by nearly the same amount of time as a university photographer, it was ingrained in me not to draw attention. The less I’m noticed, the more authentic the image. Authenticity has always been my standard.

So for now I will continue to shoot, adding to this website as I go along and also on Intagram as a legacy to my time behind the camera and unscripted. Other projects are on the horizon and have already taken me places beyond my expectations. For all those who have brought me this far, I thank you.
